If you know me, you know I love exploring everything Tampa Bay has to offer — and that includes our amazing parks! Each year, Hillsborough County puts on the Hiking Spree, a fun challenge that encourages people to get outside, enjoy nature, and explore local trails. You only need to complete eight hikes between November 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026 to officially “finish the spree,” and yes — there’s even a little prize at the end (hello, hiking patch or medallion!).
This year, I decided to start my Hiking Spree adventure at Lettuce Lake Park.
Why Lettuce Lake Park Is a Tampa Favorite
If you’ve never been, Lettuce Lake Park is tucked away just off Fletcher Avenue near USF, and it’s one of those places that makes you forget you’re still in the city. The moment you step onto the boardwalk, you’re surrounded by tall cypress trees, the sound of birds, and the peaceful flow of the Hillsborough River.
Here’s what makes it so special:
🌳 The boardwalk and observation tower — perfect for spotting turtles, herons, and sometimes even a gator or two!
🚶♀️Trails for all levels — whether you’re walking with friends or getting your steps in solo, there’s a mix of paved paths and nature trails to enjoy.
🛶 Kayaking and canoeing — if you’re up for a little adventure, bring your kayak and experience the river up close.
🧺 Family-friendly fun — there are picnic areas, playgrounds, and open green space for relaxing weekends with the family.
Living Near Lettuce Lake Park
Here’s the best part — imagine having this beautiful escape right in your backyard. The neighborhoods surrounding Lettuce Lake Park offer a peaceful, nature-filled lifestyle while still being just minutes from USF, I-75, and downtown Tampa. It’s a great mix of convenience and tranquility.
Homes in this area range from cozy single-family homes under the oaks to newer builds and condos — perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors but still wants easy access to the city.
If you’ve been thinking about moving closer to the heart of Tampa’s green spaces, this area is definitely worth exploring.
Stay tuned — next up, I’ll be sharing another stop on my Hillsborough County Hiking Spree!
